On the move again - to Corniglia today
Firenze - Pisa - Cinque Terre
22.09.2013 - 22.09.2013
24 °C
All packed up again this morning to head off to Cinque Terre - we were out early before they closed the Florence streets for today's time trial races.
Yaris was our young and enthusiastic driver who gave us tips and history along the way. Our first stop was Pisa where we climbed the tower and visited the cathedral. 338 steps to the top of the bell tower - and what a magnificent view over the city of Pisa. Both Jeff and I were surprised how big the city actually is. It was interesting to see the slight middle Eastern influence on the Roman architecture - due to the influx of visitors through the port. We saw all manner of photos being taken with people holding up or pushing over the tower with their hands, shoulders, heads, feet, etc - but we went with the unconventional aspect (what leaning tower?).

Next stop was looking down at the port of La Spezia on our way out and up the hill - spectacular view with several naval ships and submarines in port. Then the winding 25 minutes to our little town of Corniglia - number 3 of the Cinque Terre (5 villages) along the Italian Riviera coast. Getting to it was half the fun! With a room and later a dining table facing the sea and the sunsetting over the Mediterranean Sea, what more could you want?
Looking forward to a big walk and explore up and down hills and along pebble beaches tomorrow - oh, and more gelato shops!
